Getting from Hobart Airport to the City | Skybus

The Skybus Hobart Express Service provides a fast way to Hobart City where you can travel in comfort, and is available directly outside the airport terminal. Booking in advance means you don't have to worry about booking an Uber, taxi, or even a hire car upon arrival. The bus also has free wi-fi for the trip to Hobart. A nice bonus.

Despite the benefits, it doesn't appeal to everyone.

Below are the four ways you can get to Hobart City from Hobart Airport and why you might pick each of them.

A simple way to travel from the airport to the city center. With a ticket, you get access to:

  • Comfortable modern buses

  • Free WiFi on board

  • Mobility enhanced fleet

  • Regular daily departures

  • No excess baggage fees

The bus travels express to Hobart. No stops in between. Just look out for the big red bus or view the SkyBus pickup map here.

The SkyBus team has brought even more to the City Express, such as greater frequency of departure times and extended operating hours to facilitate more arrivals. With recent Hobart Airport upgrades, you get kerbside drop-off right outside the terminal.

Tickets are $19.50 each way and kids travel for free on the Hobart City Express Family Fare. You can book these in advance or tap & go with the introduction of contactless payments on the Hobart City Express service.

Please note the contactless system cannot be used for family tickets, child fares, senior fares, or multi-ride tickets such as return trips. These must be purchased in advance.

If you’re planning to travel anywhere outside of Hobart CBD and not take a tour or bus to destinations such as Mount Wellington, Port Arthur, or Bruny Island, you’ll likely need a hire car as public transport might not be as frequent as you’d like.

Rates can be as low as $30/day and once split between multiple people, become a budget-friendly approach to traveling in the state.

Taking this option also means that your transport from Hobart Airport to the city is sorted.

Note that not all car rental companies operate late. Bargain Car Rentals is open early and closes late (see up-to-date location hours here) and is our recommended option. Get an additional 7.5% off with the code TASUNEARTH, and then another 5% off when you ‘Pay Now & Save’. Now that’s a Bargain.

Uber rideshare is available at Hobart Airport. There is a designated pick-up area for this that you can view by clicking the button below. This is found on the official Hobart Airport website and should be the most up-to-date version of where to be picked up by Uber.

The cost of an Uber from Hobart Airport to the city starts at around $34. This will change depending on the type of vehicle. If you’re traveling in a small group, this may be more cost-beneficial than the Skybus or a hire car.

A good old-fashioned taxi. I wouldn’t say this is the best way to get to the heart of Hobart as there are other transport options with more comfort and possibly at a lower price point, but it’s an option nonetheless.

You can view the map by clicking the button below to see where the taxi rank is at Hobart Airport.

There are several methods to travel one way from the airport to the city, each with its benefits. Regardless of what you choose, we hope you can find all the information you’ll need to get to the city of Hobart.

One last tip, don’t forget about luggage storage. A taxi might not be able to house all 5 of your suitcases, whereas the SkyBus will. Think ahead and you’ll be fine. Enjoy Hobart!
