Best Burgers in Hobart, Tasmania in 2024

So you want the best burgers in Hobart, Tasmania? After living in Hobart for over 6 years, and as a burger lover myself, I've had the time to explore the best Hobart has to offer and have created a top 5 list below. I'm not alone either, Google, Trustpilot and other reviews all lead to these being the best in Hobart as of 2023.

Each burger joint has a unique story to tell. Whether you're after chicken, beef, or veggie, greasy, fresh or a mix of both, they're on this list. If you have the time, go and try them all! I guarantee you'll have a great experience and a delicious burger at each.

In no particular order, here's my top 5 list of the best burger restaurants in Hobart.

American-styled burgers are the staple here. If that's up your alley, I needn't say anything else. But I will. The Standard has a range of beef, chicken and veggie burgers, as well as loaded fries and thick shakes. My personal favourite is the Southern Fried Chicken Reverse Cowgirl burger, a true culinary delight for those able to handle the grease.

After burning down in 2019, it reopened a few years later in a brand-new location, kitted with movie posters, arcade machines, and a roof-top eating area, perfect for summer evenings. They're conveniently located in the CBD near Centrepoint Car Park in case you need parking options.

The Standard is a true culinary gem that has elevated the city’s burger scene.

Located on Hobart's waterfront is Billy's Burgers, celebrated for its fresh locally sourced ingredients, commitment to cater to a variety of dietary options, and has been referred to by many as the best burgers in Tasmania. I refuse to have a single favourite, but I do agree that Billy's is one of the best.

The pulled pork burger, in particular, receives high praise for its taste and quality. The loaded fries at Billy's Burgers are a standout too, living up to their name with deliciously seasoned fries, tender pulled pork, and fresh slaw.

Customers appreciate the quick service, even during busy periods like school holiday lunch rushes, and the value for money offered by the menu items, including the kids' meals. The restaurant is recognised for being kid-friendly, with cleverly named and presented menu options for children.

In summary, Billy's Burgers stands out for its fresh, tasty, varied menu options, quick and friendly service, and welcoming atmosphere, making it a highly recommended destination.

There's no way you'd stumble across The Winston. You either know about it, or you don't. Well, now you do and I'm sure you'll thank me later.

Their menu includes not only great burgers, such as their signature burger served in a dog bowl (my personal favourite) but a range of other high-quality food options and craft beers. For those seeking a spicy challenge, consider ordering their atomic wings. I've grabbed these twice now and will be going back for thirds once I gather up the courage.

The Winston is a wholesome spot for a quality feed.

Location: 5 Knopwood St, Hobart

A short walk from the busier part of Salamanca is Preachers, one of my favourite places to eat in the area. Dining inside is okay, however, I tend to spend my time in their outdoor dining which includes gas heating for cooler nights, and an old bus retrofitted for a dining experience.

There aren't any particular standouts from the menu, but rather just a fantastic experience for a burger and drink with mates.

Location: 105 Murray St, Hobart

Burgers, wings, hot dogs, and even merchandise. You'll find some of the tastiest mouth-watering burgers and wings complimentary with a naturally lit dining experience. No need to make a booking, just pull up and grab a table. I'm sure you'll find Fox Friday satisfies your cravings.

These locations may not be the most popular, but they sure are tasty. They constantly deliver some of Tasmania's finest quality gourmet ingredients and have yet to disappoint me on each of my visits.

If you find yourself visiting any of these locations, I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments below!

Which company has the best burger in Hobart?

All restaurants on our list are great, but if I had to pick one, I’d choose The Standard. There’s something about the American diner feel that I can’t go past.

What is the tastiest burger?

Given my love for The Standard Burgers, the tastiest burger has to be the Southern Fried Chicken Reverse Cowgirl.
